Postdoctoral position: UMR Inserm 1277 / OncoLille

Cytokine biology, Tumor immunology and immunotherapy.

A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Dr. Suman Mitra at the Institut de cancérologie ONCOLille, INSERM UMR UMR 1277, University of Lille, France. This is a full-time position), fully funded for at least two years with the possibility of 1 year of the extension. The emerging team focuses on understanding and exploiting gamma-chain cytokine activity in different tissue environments, including tumors using genetic, and protein engineering approaches. The novel engineered cytokine variants are expected to improve therapeutic outcomes of cytokine in cancer and other diseases while reducing treatment-associated toxicities.

The project led by the candidate will investigate the impact of cytokine-induced transcriptomic epigenetic networks in the reversal of tumor-specific T cells into functional memory cells. An integrated approach utilizing global transcriptomics, ChIP-seq, and proteomic approaches, along with well-defined cell culture and animal tumor models, is expected to unravel mechanistic insight into the role of JAK-STAT cytokines in reinvigorating exhausted T cells into functional memory T cells. Furthermore, modified cytokines and gene editing approaches will be used to manipulate cytokine-induced signaling networks to improve T cell responses. These reagents and combinations should also be tested in state-of-the-art animal cancer models.

Previous experience in molecular biology and immunology is essential. Knowledge of protein engineering, tumor biology, and animal models is a plus. The candidate must be proficient in oral and written communication skills in English. The candidate is expected to be highly motivated and able to work independently and simultaneously be a team player who wants to unfold his/her high potential and enthusiasm in an international collaborative research environment. Candidates must have (or be about to receive) a Ph.D. in a relevant field.

The University of Lille is a multidisciplinary University of excellence located in North-West Europe. Having recently won a place in a huge national plan to finance excellence (I-site), it is committed to building its international policy around research and innovation, international recruitment, and partnerships of excellence. The position offers intensive training in vivo models, state-of-the-art ex vivo approaches, and translational research.

Formal qualifications:

The candidate should have a Ph.D. degree. Priority should be given to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree no more than 1-2 years before the closing date of the application. The candidate is expected to perform research independently and as a team. Good knowledge of oral and written English is required.
